After-thoughts: Episode 5.04 The End

I have high expectations for The End. Forget about the double Dean double hottest element for a second, the idea of this episode alone was enough to get me excited. I was afraid of disappointment, if it wasn't executed well, it could be crap. But The End nailed it from the get go. I like the Terminator-Resident Evil look and feel. The story, the writing and the acting were absolutely top notch. It was WOW.

Dean was zapped by Zachariah and traveled five years into the future and met his future self, where he was a leader of a resistance camp; Sarah Palin was the President; Castiel went mortal and hippy; Chuck was like this inventory manager and Sam gave in to Lucifer.

It's a very interesting episode. Zachariah wanted Dean to see what the future could look like if he continued to say no to be Micheal's vessel. This could be one of Zach's strategies to get Dean to say yes. Zach has the power to manipulate a situation (as seen in It's a Terrible Life), what we saw might not be the future at all. It's just a way to get Dean to say yes.

We found out a few key things in this episode: The Devil's end game was to doom mankind with Croatoan virus; the Colt was found (Did the present Dean ask the future Dean about the location of the Colt?); Dean said yes to be Micheal's vessel but it was too late, the angels left; and Sam said yes to be Lucifer's vessel. It was interesting to find out from this episode that the angels left earth, they just left, as if they just gave up. Did anyone end up finding God? May be Zach omitted the details, so that Dean could see how shit this shit hole is and say yes.

Story and writing aside, what made this episode was Jensen Ackles performance. How awesome is this guy? He is always great in Supernatural, some noticeable performances can be seen in What Is and What Should Never Be and All Hell Breaks Loose II. But in The End, Jensen gave an award winning performance. This is gold. His interpretation of the future Dean out-shined his performance of the present Dean. His performance was sooo good, it also out-shined Jared Padalecki's Lucifer, it was good but not as powerful and believable as Jensen's Dean and Dean.

Castiel was again adorable. Although the hippy Cas was funny, but I like the classic Cas better. Please don't change! Chuck was great.. I love Chuck!! I wonder how the prophet thing played out during the five years of the future. And on Sam, they didn't reveal his reason for saying yes to Lucifer. And again, it was heart-breaking to even hear that Dean and Sam didn't talk for five years.

After four intense mytho heavy episodes, we are getting a filler episode next week. I don't care so much as Paris Hilton on the show, but it will be funny to see it! It's good to get a filler, we need a break from the heavy stuff. The week after, I am going to have brain damage from Whitney Houston - I Believe the Children Are Our Future...
