HOLY JENSEN BATMAN! Jensen Ackles Does Voice for Red Hood

Having done TV, 3D & indie films, stage, singing and now the voice for animation, I think all Jensen needs to complete his resume is to host the Oscars, run Presidency and be part of the Six Degrees of Heaven Bacon.

According to LA times, there will be a promo of Batman: Under the Red Hood in the Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths DVD which premiers on February 23. Guess who is doing the voice for Red Hood? HOLY JENSEN BATMAN!

Thoughts on Supernatural 5.13 The Song Remains the Same

A twenty-five cent angel is watching over the longest post ever on this blog.

W
hat is the title of this episode again? (A) Everybody Loves Raymond (B) Everybody Hates Chris (C) Everybody Wants to Kill Sam. (D) D for Dean (E) In the Middle or (F) In the Middle of the Same Song

Supernatural
is at its best with The Song Remains the Same. This episode was written by Sera Gamble and Nancy Weiner, directed by Steve Boyum. You know Steve from
his directorial work such as The End, In the Beginning, Death Takes a Holiday, Dream a Little Dream of Me and Crossroad Blues. And for those who are not familiar with Nancy Weiner, she wrote Monster at the End of the Book and The Real Ghostbusters. Yeah! THAT Nancy!

Where do I begin? I have a lot to say about this episode. It's ridiculous how much I love this episode. This is frekking brilliant!
For the 99th times, I love the Winchester Family episodes such as Home and In the Beginning. In fact, The Song Remains the Same tops Home and In the Beginning. I love every scene and every second of it.

Here are my thoughts with music recommendation!

The Polaroid Moment
(Song: The Power of Love, Huey Lewis)
Dad "Honey, where is the flux capacitor?"
Mum "I told you this is not Back to the Future!"

Rarely we see the Winchesters Family (i.e. mum, dad and the two boys) in the same episode, same scene and exchange dialogue.
Despite the life and death situation they were in, seeing Mary and John interacting with Dean and Sam was heart warming.

The Impala scene was long overdue!! As a big fan of the family episode, this is what I've been waiting for!!!! We haven't seen John driving the Impala before, we knew he was driving the car in After School Special, but we didn't see him in the shot. So this was the first time we saw John driving the Impala with Mary next to him, Dean and Sam at the backseat. With Dad telling everyone to shut up, that completed the awkward family road trip! Wouldn't it be funny if Mary was the driver?!

Before I forget, I just wanted to say how brilliant Matt Cohen and Amy Gumenick were as Young John and Mary. Jensen and Jared were brilliant as usual, but Matt and Amy stole the show. The four of them really have a lot of chemistry.

Glenn Close
(Song: That Thing You Do, from the movie That Thing You Do!)
OK so.. not exactly the Fatal Attraction Glenn Close, but the 101 Dalmatians Glenn Close, Cruella De Vil was equally crazy. I am sure Castiel won't get that reference either. Oh! Cas, get this: Anna did a Gollum and escaped from Mordor.

So... Anna
was on a mission to kill Mary and John before they conceived Sam. So why bother to tell Dean? Surely she knew he won't let her kill Sammy, he was so gonna tell his BFF Castiel everything. But I can't figure out who let her go though, if she was indeed let go, like Castiel said. Or did she really escape and went Glenn Close?

If Heaven let her go and program her to kill Sam, then Lucifer lose his true vessel. So what, his power will be limited, making it easier to destroy him? Do you think the order came from Michael? But I don't think he cares, because I don't think he is afraid of losing. He could have just killed Sam with a snap of his fingers. Unless there is another agenda yet to be revealed? Or perhaps someone else let her escape? If so, who was it?

1978 Was So Dope
(Song: What a Wonderful World, Joey Ramone)
What? I like Rich from In the Beginning

The way Glenn Close and Arnie went back to 1978 was kinda Terminator.
But at least they have their clothes on! I am a little bit disappointed that Cas passed out and didn't assist after that. But that's ok. He did great in the beginning. I miss Cas so much! Two episodes without him is torture! The way he spoke Enochian (assuming it was Enochian), was so hot!

By the way, why must Dean and Castiel and now Young John talk like Christian Bale in Batman and Terminator? HOT!

"You're my.. You're my... my... mom.. You're my mom. You're so.. so.. THIN!"
(Song: Earth Angel, Marvin Berry And The Starlighters)
"Sam, seriously! What's with the sideburns? I am your mother and I'm telling you to get rid of it!"

Sam has never ever met or lived with his mother. In this episode, Mary wasn't an illusion (When the Levee Breaks) or a spirit (Home) or in an alternative reality (WIAWSNB) or in a play back (AHBL). When Sam said to Mary "You're so beautiful", it reminded me of another McFly moment in BTTF. To see Sam reacting like this was pretty cool. I was kinda expecting this meeting to be funnier, but this is good too.

BTW, is it me or did the way Mary opened the door reminded you of the way the other Mary opened the door for Dean in WIAWSNB?
And John! How can you not remember Dean Van Halen, the hottie who recommended the Impala to you? Also, how often do you get to call your parents by their first names without getting into trouble?

Another cool thing is that, we haven't really seen Mary in combat action before as a hunter. We saw that here! She kicked Anna's ass! Mary! You are awesome! Amy Gumenick is really awesome as Mary. Welcome to the family! I

I Am Your Son, Together We Can Rule the Garrison
(Song: That soundtrack from Star Wars, John Williams)
If you think "I am your father" in Star Wars was epic, Dean's "I am your son" is equally epic!

I was really hoping Dean would tell Mary everything. He did. YAY! But then Michael wiped the parents' memories clean.
I was also hoping Dean and Sam to say MUM I LOVE YOU and then a massive Winchester hug before they go back to 2010. There was no hugs in this episode! That's probably the only thing missing!

Ladies and Gentlemen: Introducing the Archangel Michael
who is not played by Michael Shanks
(Song: Carry on Wayward Son, Kansas)
"Get over it Tiny. I am not Michael Shanks."
It's ok Matt or John or Michael, I still love you.

The writers have found a way to introduce the Archangel Michael. I didn't expect to see him to AT ALL! They'll usually give you a hint about it, but they keep this one under lock and key.

Now that the Winchester bloodline is in the story, perhaps from the writer's point of view, this is the best way to introduce Michael and for him to talk to Dean face to face. There is no other bloodline/ Winchester vessel left, and obviously Michael can't wear Sam. Of course, Michael could have just appeared in Dean's dream as Pedestrian X, Y or Z, but wearing John the vessel is so much more interesting and it ties in with the bloodline thing.

Michael is obviously a very very powerful angel, he is probably the most powerful of all angels.
Just like Gabriel, with a snap of his fingers, he could make you disappear. But with a touch, he could burn the angel and their vessel into ashes. Poor Anna.. or not! The special effect in this scene was really cool!

I guess this scene may have just answered my question earlier. If Michael let Anna go, why killed her? I mean he can always bring her back, but I don't think so. So perhaps, Anna did escape or someone else let her escape? Actually, does it matter whether she was let go or not? I am confused now. Details!

Matt Cohen did a brilliant job playing John Winchester and the Archangel Michael. I wonder what was his reaction when he found out he will be playing Michael. OMFG! His performance was really good! Welcome to the family!

By the way, John Winchester is the only character who has been the vessel for the angel (Michael) and the demon (YED).

The Archangel Michael has spoken!
(Repeat: Carry on Wayward Son, Kansas)
"My answer is YES, if Tiny would marry me."

I guess nothing in Supernatural is ever black and white, everything is in a gray area. I like Michael. I do. I can't wait to see more of him.

Michael and Lucifer are not so much different in terms of the way they talk (very gently), they have similar mannerism and the angle they presented to Dean and Sam are
opposite but similar. Micheal being the big brother, like Dean, raised Lucifer and loved him. Lucifer, like Sam, the little brother who rebelled against God's plan.

This is like round two of anything! In round one, Lucifer (Oh Jacob! I love Mark Pellegrino) presented his sales pitch to Sam. And in round two, Michael presented his sales pitch to Dean. Now that Michael and Lucifer have spoken, the big question is looming more than ever. I think Dean and Sam will say YES. Just like the previous big questions in Supernatural: Will Dean go to Hell? YES. Will Sam turn darkside? YES. Will Lucifer rise? YES. Will Dean and Sam say yes? YES. It's a matter of how, why, when and what's going to happen after that.

Michael has made it clear that he
won't leave Dean a drooling mess after he's done wearing him, we won't see the issue Raphael's vessel has. Dean will definitely return as a hottie in a body.

The Winchester Family Soundtrack
(Song: We Go Together, John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John)
"We go together like rama lama lama ke ding a de dinga a dong. Remembered forever like shoo bop shoo wadda wadda yipitty boom de boom."

I notice the music (violin/ piano or whatever that is) is very similar to the previous family episodes. For example, In
Home, when John appeared at the end of the episode, looking at his wedding ring. In WIAWSNB, when Mary was talking to Dean towards the end of the episode, asking him to stay in the alternative reality and when Dean was talking to John in the cemetery. And In the Beginning, when Dean was warning Mary not to get out of bed on November 2, 1983.

Using music this way really ties in with the Winchester Family story arc. I wish they could release this music for fans to download, I really love this piece of music.

Team Free Will or Team Destiny or Team Tiny
(Song: My Life Would Suck Without You, Glee Cast)

So, this is IT! Team Free Will or Team Destiny or whatever it's called! I call it Team Tiny. Don't like it? Eat me!

Would Dean say yes if Michael can save Mary from dying in the nursery? I think his answer would be YES. I think if season five is the last season, I think that's how it will end. Dean says YES to save Mary, and Sam says YES to save John. THE END. But season five might not be the last season and I am not Eric Kripke. If I am Kripke, I won't be sitting here talking to you.

Any theories on how Michael and Lucifer are going to make Dean and Sam say YES? There are many things the angels can use as leverage against Dean and Sam.

The Song Remains the Same is now one of my favorite episodes of Supernatural. I cannot stop watching it, I cannot stop talking about it. I abso-superfreking-lutely love it.

TozaBoma has posted THE BEST recap of this episode. Check it out here.

Supernatural Season Five DVD (Vol 1) Cover Art

In some countries like UK, the DVD is split into 2 volumes. In Australia, we don't even get volume 1, we have to wait longer to get the full season. Thanks why Amazon always get the extra cookie from me! Anyway, here is the DVD artwork of the volume 1. Source Kryptonsite.

As you can see on the backcover of the DVD, there is one commentary on The End by the Eric Kripke. I am hoping there will be more commentaries from Jensen and Jared and the rest of the cast on Changing Channels or The Song Remains the Same.

My Supernatural Bloody Valentine clips; Another Hellatus

Valentines Day with Cupid, Huggy Bear and the Winchesters

Needless to say, I am on lock down. So here are a few clips if you want to be spoiled. Episode 5.13 My Bloody Valentine airs Thursday 11 February on The CW.

Castiel (Misha Collins) helps Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) hunt down Cupid (guest star Lex Medlin) on Valentine’s Day after townspeople start to kill each other for love. However, after Cupid tells them he’s innocent, they discover Famine (guest star James Otis), one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, has arrived in town. Mike Rohl directed the episode written by Ben Edlund.

Oh Hell-Hellatus!

Oh Hell!! I knew another hellatus was coming, I was hoping it to be a mini one, but this is long! That's right folks, Supernatural will go into a six week hellatus.

SpoilerTV reports "Vampire Diaries and Supernatural will go on hiatus after the February 11th episode and won't be back till March 25th. On the bright side as on March 25th they will have no breaks until the season finales on May 13th."

PS - I am working on the blog post for The Song Remains the Same. It should be online today.

Hello Hot Stuff: Supernatural Hot Stuff

Super SUPER hot photos from the Supernatural 100th Episode Party from Hollywood Reporter.

Is that McG? I wonder how much he is involved with the show creatively. I would actually love to see McG to direct an episode. One of those Terminator post-
apocalyse episodes would be nice. He should've casted Jensen Ackles to play John Connor instead of Christian Bale!! Also, I think if there is someone who could help Kripke to influence the WB to back a Supernatural movie, it's McG! I really want to see a Supernatural movie!

More photos can be found on Hollywood Reporter. Knock yourself out!

I love how Jared is like "Hellz Yeah! 100th Episode bizzatches!"

Thanks to bjthirtythree for uploading the video!

Question: How would you react when you see God in person? OMFG!

SpoilerTV reports a casting call for 5.19 OMFG. That's right folks. OMGF! As in O-M-F-G! Details here. I wonder who an Indian woman, what is the significance of that? I mean, why not Korean (which Yunjin Kim would be perfect for it). Will wait and see.

Good read of the week: 'Lost' and 'Supernatural': Have they become the same show? by Maureen Ryan

Interesting list of similarities by Maureen. Very interesting!

What I like about Supernatural is that it answers questions! Lost DOESN'T. Didn't the Lost creators said not ALL questions will be answered by the end of the series? This is the only thing I complain about Lost, otherwise, Daniel Frekking Farady for the WIN! I think Eric Kripke is a better showrunner and he has a better vision on the story arc from the get go.

I am shattered! He is not Michael or God! (Spoiler! Spoiler!)

Newarama had an interview with Michael Shanks who will be on Smallville and Supernatural. I know I was living in hope that he will be Archangel Michael or God.. I know! I know! I am shattered! But still good to see the Shanks on Supernatural! His next project for The CW could be Gossip Girl.. (#fakerumordonotbelieveit).

Did you know Michael's wife Lexa Doig was Risa on Supernatural: The End? She was also on SG1 as Dr Lam. That's how they met.. you know!

Nrama: So what do you have coming up next?

Shanks: I literally just yesterday finished a guest spot on Supernatural. I had a relatively minor role in it, working with Jared (Padalecki) and Jensen (Ackles), and a few other actors, fighting some demons and throwing down with the boys. I think that will be out in a couple months. The episode is called, I think, '99 Problems'. I'm not featured quite prominently in it, but it was a lot of fun to play in that universe. It fit into my schedule quite handily. That's why I did it.

Nrama: Is there anything about the character you can tell us?

Shanks: Yeah. The character's name is Rob, and he's a member of the Sacrament Lutheran Church, and basically it's a township that has pretty much organized to fight the demon apocalypse that's coming. They're not running and screaming. They're hunkering down. They've figured out a way to fight and whatnot. They boys come across them and are quite enamored by they way they've organized themselves. They have a sort of militia...when a tragedy occurs in Rob's family he sort of takes a bit of a hardline approach when it comes to his beliefs. I'll leave it at that because it starts getting into spoiler territory beyond that.

Speculation only! Could the CW pair up Smallville and Supernatural again?

Remember this?

Devoted to Smallville posted a TVGuide scan on their site. See for yourself!

I would love to see the CW to pair up
Smallville and Supernatural again, if they get season 10 and season 6 respectively. But not so sure about Friday night, I suppose it could be a good thing. One way or another, it doesn't effect my viewing habit! But like I said previously, I would love to see Smallville to hit 4mil and Supernatural to hit 3.5 mil in their finale season.

However, it'd be funny if the CW launches the new drama about cheerleaders (produced by Tom Welling) after Smallville on Friday night. Just saying....

Want to know more about the new CW pilot projects, read them here.
Betwixt sounds strangely familiar!

Supernatural 100th episode title revealed

Geniuses at work

BuddyTV and Krytonsite revealed that the title for Supernatural 100th episode (5.18) is Point of No Return. This episode will air on April 15, 2010.

As per usual, episode title may change, who knows! I am not even going start thinking about the 100th episode! May be I will after I watch The Song Remains the Same.

Just so you know, there are songs that have the same title. Including Point of No Return by Rex Hobart and the Misery boys and
Point of No Return from the Phantom of the Opera. Go figure!

I will keep you posted!!

Supernatural Rewatch: 4.03 In the Beginning, Mum Was a Babe

You should read this blog with Ramblin' Man by The Allman Brothers Band.

To get ready for 5.13 The Song Remains the Same, KaraLambo and I did a TwitCom on 4.03 In the Beginning, which is one of our favorite episodes.
In the Beginning was written by two of my favorite writers Eric Kripke and Jeremy Carver. This episode was directed by Steve Boyum.

Instead of re-posting the tweets from the TwitCom, I've decided to treat this blog post like a blog post. Before I get started, I just want to get this out there. While I was twitter-drunk, I wouldn't stop calling episode 5.13 Back to The Future II or In the Middle, and I think at one stage, I called it In the Middle of the Same Song. My apologies to the Eric Kripke.

First up, Previously on! I think sometimes, people underestimate the power of the Previously on. Supernatural does very very good Previously on. When a Previously on was awesome, 10 out of 10 times the episode is epic. Like Home and In the Beginning, the Previously on really set the tone of the episode.

I was listening to the DVD commentary of this episode by Eric Kripke and Jeremy Carver, when talking about how awesome Misha is as Castiel, Jeremy mentioned that when he wrote this episode, he hasn't seen Misha before and the season premier hasn't even been filmed, so there was no rushes for him to view. To see Misha nails this role perfectly is a pure joy! Both Eric and Jeremy were very complimentary about Misha. At one stage, Jeremy called Misha 'a hottie in a body'.

I love it when a Supernatural episode surprises me, especially when an episode appears to be a filler. I guess that's why I enjoyed Monster at the End of the Book and Changing Channels. As you know, yours truly don't watch spoiler clips, so apart from the photos and official synopsis, I really don't know too much about an episode before it aired. I was really expecting In the Beginning to be a funny-filler-Back to the Future style episode. But In the Beginning is so mytho heavy and sad (I think I cried twice - when Dean was asking Mary not to get out of bed on November 2, 1983 and when Dean found out Mary made the deal with YED.)

In the diner scene in 1973, when Dean walked into the diner, The Power of Love by Huey Lewis was playing in my head! Jeremy said he was going to make everyone in the diner to dress like Rich (the dude who works there..). He also joked that he was going to write Dean roller skated into the diner. I'd love to see that! There was this McFly moment when Dean and young John were responding to the old man who walked in and said "Winchester!" (McFly!) I love that scene.

I was listening to a classic episode of the Crossroads Podcast, Tim mentioned that the song that was playing in the diner was Ramblin' Man by The Allman Brothers Band. Same song that was played in the Pilot when Dean was filling up the Impala. I love it when a later episode of Supernatural paid homage of the Pilot. Ramblin' Man is one of the most played songs on my iPod. It's interesting to listen to the classic Crossroads, I always love listening to Tim's theory.

Another thing I love about Supernatural is that they do really good casting. I guess apart from the Lillith in
Monster at the End of the Book and Lucifer Rising, every single guest star is very well-cast. Why I don't think this Lillith was good? I think Lillith has always been a creepy little 8 years girl, even when she possessed a grown up body, Ruby 1.0 (Katie Cassidy in No Rest for the Wicked). So when I saw the performance by the actress who played Lillith in Monster at the End of the Book and Lucifer Rising, I was like where is Lillith? She didn't channel the mannerism, not so much Katie's mannerism, but Lillith's mannerism. All actors who played YED, Alastair and Meg, they all channeled the same mannerism. So.. there!

Anyway, I went way off track. RIGHT! Back to casting! Supernatural does really good casting, Mitch Pileggi was excellent as Grandpa Samuel. I am really pleased with the casting of Matthew Cohen and Amy Gumenick as young John and Mary. I cannot think of anyone else who could play the roles better. Not only they look like JDM and Samatha Smith, they are really convincing as young John and Mary. Not only Matthew Cohen and Amy Gumenick have great chemistry, they also have great chemistry with Jensen Ackles. Mitch Pileggi and Jensen also have great chemistry, the scene between YED and Dean was really cool.

Now that we've seen the back story of Mary, we understand her character a bit more, as Kara pointed out you can really see there is a little bit of Mary in Dean and Sam, it's something you couldn't see in previous episodes because we simple didn't know anything about Mary. Too bad the writers decided to leave Sam out of this episode for creative reasons. But do not worry! Sam is in the next episode.

Before I forget, I have a wish for 5.13! I want Dean and Sam to say out loud to Mary:

"MUM, I LOVE YOU"
And then Dean and Sam to hug Mary before they are back to 2010 (bring out the Kleenex)

While I am on the subject of Mary and John, I know this will NEVER happen! (OK, may be in a fan fiction), but I really want to see Mary and John hunt together. I wonder how it would be like.

Do you think this episode (with Dean going back) changed the course of history? I mean, the YED knew Dean would be the one who killed him. On one hand, whatever happened, happened. But people are the variables, perhaps somehow somewhere they did change the course of history? Time traveling is a complex concept. I wish Daniel Faraday was on the show!

We found out through Dean, that
Mary was a hunter. A big revelation! And no one knew about it. Not even John. If Dean didn't go back, we would've never known this. I know Kara called it! She knew! But to me, it was a total surprise. Even when Mary walked up to Dean in the alleyway and asked him why was he following her and John, I thought perhaps she was possessed by a demon and knew things. But NO, she knew because she has a good sense of surroundings.

While I am on the subject, I just want to list a number of seriously big revelations in the Winchester Gospel:

1.) Mary was a hunter and she made the deal with YED
2.) Dean broke the first seal and he is Michael's vessel
3.) Sam broke the last seal and he is Lucifer's vessel
4.) John was sweet?
5.) God has left the building
6.) Gabriel is Trickster
7.) Dean's amulet was a God EMF

Anything missing here??

There are certainly weird questions while I was watching this episode:

- Is it me or is it weird that Mary and John stayed in Lawrence after what Mary's been through with the YED. Like, ok.. I'll just wait here... for the YED to come back in 10 years time. Did she do any research on the YED and why he would come back?

- Dean told Mary to not get out of bed on
November 2, 1983. Why didn't she remember it or write it down? (Kripke asked the same thing during the commentary.)

- Did John ever question what happened to himself? Surely he knew he was dead, his neck got snapped. Did he ever question what happened to Samuel and Deanna? According to the Comic, John never find out Mary was a hunter.

- So the angels knew what Azazel did to Sam, but they didn't know why. What his end game was. Surely they know! His end game was to prepare Sam for Lucifer! Surely they know if Dean is Michael's vessel, there is a possibility of Sam being Lucifer's vessel.

- Castiel told Dean to stop Sam or they will. OK so, clearly they changed their mind later, because the angels didn't want Dean to stop Sam anyway, because the angels want Lucifer to rise and start the War.

I guess it's just that the angel senior management didn't tell the troops much.

In the Beginning was a very very very awesome episode. I absolutely love it! It's well written, it's awesome to see Dean interacting with his parents. It's just one of those episodes you can watch over and over again. It's one of those episodes that make you fall in love with Supernatural all over again. I am calling it now, The Song Remains the Same is going to be one of my favorite episodes. I have sky high expectation on this episode. I somehow wish this is the 100th episode (having the four members of the Winchester family in the same episode and scenes), but it's not gonna happen. But that's ok. I'll live.

When
The Song Remains the Same comes out, I am going to have another marathon - Home, In the Beginning and The Song Remains the Same.
