More ComicCon Goodies - Branded Keycards

WB is issuing special hotel keycards featuring five of their shows - Supernatural, Smallville, V, Batman: Under the Red Hood and one promoting the DC App for iPhone, iPad & Sony PSP.

29,000 room keys will be branded with the special design, chances are high to get one of these if you are staying at the participating hotels. AWESOME! I am sure I can buy them on eBay later! Interestly, Jensen Ackles stars in 2 of the following promotions (Supernatural and Batman: Under the Red Hood.)

A total of 29,000 branded room keys, designed by Warner Bros.’ Worldwide Television Marketing unit, will be distributed at 36 participating hotels throughout the San Diego area during the week of the Con. Featuring five different designs in two size variations, the room keys will generate buzz around the Studio’s properties among fans.

Smallville: To celebrate the 10^th and final season of Smallville and the show’s final appearance at Comic-Con, the key card features a shot of series star and executive producer Tom Welling. Smallville returns on September 24, airing Fridays at 8/7c on The CW.
Supernatural: Series stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles return to lead this hit series into its sixth season, airing on a new night this fall: Fridays at 9/8c on The CW. The series premieres September 24.
V: The thrilling drama series had the highest-rated debut episode of any scripted series during the 2009–10 season among Adults 18–49 and returns for its second season in November on ABC. The key card features series star Morena Baccarin in her role as Anna, the leader of the Visitors.

Supernatural creator Eric Kripke came out to talk about why he stepped down as the show-runner of the show, what his plan is and all that... OMG.. I am liking what I've reading so far. The show is in good hands!!! I have faith. I trust you. You jump I jump.

Jensen Ackles is getting good review from his voice role in Batman: Under the Red Hood animation. I can't wait to get hold of it!!! Again.. Christopher Nolan, you NEED to cast Jensen as Jason Todd/ Red Hood in Batman III.

This is by far the biggest line-up Supernatural has ever had at Comic Con. Jensen Ackles, Jared Padelicki, Misha Collins and Jim Beaver, plus Eric Kripke, Ben Edlund, and new show-runner Sera Gamble will appear on the Supernatural panel on Sunday 25 July. The panel will be moderated by USA Weekend/USA Today writer, editor and blogger Brian Truitt, you can follow Brian on Twitter.

As for Smallville, Tom Welling, Erica Durance, Cassidy Freeman and Justin Hartley will also appear on Sunday with Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson. The panel will be moderated by DC Entertainment's Big Cheese, Chief Creative Director Geoff Johns, who you can follow on Twitter.

The Biggest Gathering for the Intellectuals - ComicCon 2011

Comic Con is the biggest event of its kind in the world. This year's geek-fest will take place in San Diego from July 22 - 25. Most TV panels will take place on Saturday (24 July) and Sunday (25 July). For shows such as Supernatural, Smallville Chuck, The Big Bang Theory etc, check out the schedule at TVOvermind.

TV Guide has teamed up with Warner Brothers to released special edition with four different covers including Smallville and The Big Bang Theory. Details here. Fans can pick up the mags from Comic-Con exclusively at the Warner Bros. booth, #4545. The special issue will also be on newsstands on Monday July 26. I think Fringe will get the 3rd cover, not sure about the 4th one. But it'd be awesome to see a Supernatural cover!

Teachers in Pop Culture - Glee, Dead Poet Society, GTO & School of Rock

I watched the season finale of Glee the other night. Oh boy! The unexpected happened! I cried! Dammit! I cried during the To Sir With Love scene. I cried even more when I saw Sue cried. DAMMIT! So it got me thinking, I am going to talk about teachers in popular culture.

Occasionally, I love a good drama focuses on teachers. Not that I have ever wanted to be a teacher, because I think it should be a highly respected and important profession, and it should rank higher than doctors and lawyers. Three dramas - Glee, Dead Poet Society and GTO - are amongst the best thing I've seen about teaching! I personally have never encountered any teachers during my school years who were inspirational or anything close to Mr Schuester, Mr Keating or Onizuka Sansei. I wish I did. I am sure my life would turn out different!

William Schuester - Glee


Mr Schu is not prefect, but he is a better teacher than anyone who claims to be a teacher on the show. He is cool. He connects to the kids. He is inspirational. He is a leader. He fights for the kids. He doesn't give up on the kids. And Sue Silvester is jealous! HAHA! What I love about Mr Schu is that we get to see his struggle - he wanted to give up, he wanted to be do something that paid more (that's why I hated Terri - she is everything I don't want to be). But in the end, it was the kids who reminded him why he became a teacher.

John Keating - Dead Poet Society

O Captain! My Captain! I mean, seriously! DPS was so inspirational, this movie makes me cry because I kept thinking - I wish I have a Mr Keating in my life!

Carpe, carpe diem, seize the day, make your lives extraordinary! That was his mojo. He told the kids to throw away the books and think outside the square. His teaching method was out there.

Eikichi Onizuka - GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka)


This is not the first time I mentioned GTO on my blog. For those who are not familiar with GTO, it was a manga turned TV drama. The TV series has got to be one of my favourite TV dramas ever. Onizuka was a ex-biker who had one goal only - to be the greatest high school teacher in the world! The Principal was one cool lady. She wasn't looking for someone who was a great chemistry or maths teacher, she needed a person with a good heart to fix the kids because they needed help. He was assigned to the worst class in school - a class full of great and clever kids but they were lost.

Onizuka not only became their teachers, but also their friend. He inspired them to confront problems and live their dreams. He hated the politics in the school - there were teachers who only wanted to be rich and powerful. He also inspired other teachers in the school - he reminded them why they wanted to be teachers in the first place. Onizuka got fired a few times because he was all out helping the kids - he didn't care about being fired, if he could save the kids, so be it. In the end, when Onizuka was in trouble, the students stood by him. That was a great ending!

Dewey Finn - School of Rock (An honorable mention)


I can't help it! I have to mention Jack Black! I love this movie! I love how he took the job because he just needed the money, but he turned out to be a great teacher and inspired the kids! AWESOME!!!

Two Supernatural spin-off series I'd love to watch on TV

There are Supernatural spin-off novels and comic books (and fan-fics) out there. However, I would love to watch two ideas to be made into a spin-off TV series.

I would love to watch a John Winchester spin-off. The ideal actor would be Jeff Dean Morgan for sure! Young Dean and Sam should be in it. Of course, young Dean should be by Ridge Canipe, and young Sam should be played by Colin Ford. There are other characters who I would love to see in this spin-off - characters who have only been mentioned and / or appeared once or twice in the original series - such as Caleb, Daniel Elkin, Pastor Jim and Bill Harvelle etc. They could bring in Ellen, young Jo and young Ash with a mullet as well! They could also bring in the psychic Massouri. Let's not forget Uncle Bobby played by Jim Beaver!! HOT!

Another idea for a spin-off series is Samuel Colt! I have always been fascinated by the Colt. Although, to me, it didn't finish off the way I would love to, but it is still a great idea for a spin-off. The ideal cast for Samuel Colt would be Jeremy Davis (aka Daniel Faraday from Lost) or Viggo Mortensen. Both are heavy-weight actors! It would be great to see a ghost-hunter on horseback hunting supernatural stuff and to see how he made the Colt - and how did he know so much; how and why he built the Gate and the giant devil traps (aka the railway line) etc. I think there are so much they can add to this one. Perhaps the writers could be build a connection to the Winchesters and the Campbells. That would be AWESOME!

Superhero blog; Captain America it is!

Once I got over the fact Jensen Ackles is not Captain America, I am slowing warming up to Chris Evans. I've seen him in Crapastic Four, Street King, The Nanny Diaries and that movie about the cell phone. I haven't seen the Losers nor have I the desire to, but I may watch even Scott Pilgrim vs the World. He is good, but I guess this is his moment. Before Batman, Bale wasn't a household name. So this is it for Evans!

Jensen started it! So I am going to finish it! I will be blogging about Captain America and the Avengers. How much do I know about them? ZERO! I don't know absolutely nothing about them!! So this will be my journey of discovery. It'd better be good!

The first thing I notice when it comes to Captain America is the costume. It's iconic, just like most superhero costume i.e Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Wonder Woman, Cat Woman, the list is endless. When I first saw the Captain America outfit, I was like, how are they going to make this look cool and modern even though the story took place in WWII? When I saw the concept arts, I was impressed. Chris Evens talked about his costume with Empire.

The second thing I notice is the story. Every superhero has a story. Christophe Nolan's Batman movies took a different direction from the Tim Burton's, they were more character driven, which I like. What turned them into who they are? I've never been a Superman fan, I can't explain it. But when I started watching Smallville, I started to appreciate the life of Clark Kent and realised what makes Superman is Clark Kent. I really like the first Spiderman movie (Tobey as Spiderman/ Peter Parker), I like Peter Parker because he is not rich like Bruce Wayne, and he delivered pizza and made his own costume. So I wonder what is the story of Steve Rogers? He was a soldier, human, with no superpower. With an experimental serum, he turned gi-normal and went to war. Am I close?

The last thing I want to mention about Captain America is his shield. Surprisingly I got excited when the shield appeared in Iron Man II. I knew that Easter Egg!! Yay me! I added that shield on my Twitter homepage for Jensen. For some reason, I really like the symbol. Has anyone got the latest SFX? It has an amazing cover!

I can't say I have the same desire for Thor. I saw Natalie Portman's interview last week with our Aussie guy. I guess I'll watch it for Natalie, I've loved her since Leon, Star Wars and Garden State. So why not this one! She is one my favorite female actresses next to Scarlett Johannson and Kate Winslet.





Speaking of Scarlett, OMG! I love her as the Black Widow! I would love to watch a Black Widow spin-off! She and Chris Evans were in The Nanny Diaries together, where Evans was Harvard Hottie and she was Annie and Nanny. It was a cute film. Natalie Portman and Scarlett were in The Other Boleyn Girl together. I don't know if their characters will cross-path in the Marvel universe.

Speaking of The Other Boleyn Girl and Spiderman, I just wanted to say, Jim Sturgess, who also played the lead in Across the Universe, should be the new Spiderman.

Before I go, more news about the Smallville panel at this month's ComicCon have surfaced! OMG! Geoff Johns will be moderating the Smallville panel, with special appearance by Tom Welling, Erica Durance, Cassidy Freeman and Justin Hartley. Interesting to see Cassidy there, I wonder what will happen to Tess in season 10. Details here.

Also, the CW has announced the return date for Supernatural and Smallville. They will be on Friday 24 September, with Smallville at 8pm and Supernatural at 9pm.

Spoiler on Smallville: Papa Kent is coming back! The season premier has been named Lazarus. Hello! I love Smallville, but I think Smallville writers love Supernatural too. Lazarus Rising was the episode title for Supernatural season 4 premier, the episode depicted Castiel raised Dean from the dead. So Clark will be raised from the dead (again.. probably by Jor El), but while he was 'dead', I think that's where Papa Kent will appear. Thank God it's not Lana!

I am just talking shit here..
